Enrich your home school curriculum with our engaging and interdisciplinary programming! Conner Prairie Interactive History Park offers special days when home school students can enjoy educational programs together.

September

Prairie Pioneers (Grades K -1)
Date: September 23, 2009
Time: 1:30 pm
Length: 1 hour Cost: $4.50/ person
Find out how early Indiana settlers prepare for winter! Learn about harvesting, transporting crops, using sheep wool and other preparations for winter. Visit a log cabin, help grind corn, string apples and play fun pioneer games.

Churning Up Chores (Grades 2 -4)
Date: September 23, 2009
Time: 1:30 pm
Length: 1½ hours
Cost: $5/ person
Experience the busy everyday life of settlers in 19th-century Indiana—cooking over a fire, churning butter and dipping candles. Learn how settlers moved and set up households, working dawn to dusk.
Note: Prairie Pioneers and Churning Up Chores are offered simultaneously in the same area so that you may easily observe both programs if you have learners of different ages.

October

Woodland Indians: Art and Culture (Grades 2 -8)
Date: October 5, 2009
Time: 9:30 am -1:30 pm
Length: 4 hours
Cost: $5/person
Experience the rich tradition and deep-rooted history of the Lenape Indians. Learn about Lenape culture from members of the Delaware Tribe who have traveled from Oklahoma to present this special program on their history and culture. Attend six sessions, including an outdoor dance program.

November

Follow the North Star (Due to the subject matter and intensity of this program, we require that participants be at least 12 years of age.)
Date: November 10, 2009
Time: 10:30 am, 10:45 am
Length: 1½ hours
Cost: $8/ person (deposit required)
Step into the shoes of a fugitive slave on the road to freedom. Travel as a group and search for safety along the way.

December

Gingerbread Jamboree (Grades K -1)
Date: December 3, 2009
Time: 1:10 pm
Cost: $4.50/ person
Length:1¼ hours
Discover how gingerbread used to be made on a trip to the Conner House kitchen. Hear the gingerbread man story and help the cook make gingerbread. Hunt for and meet the missing gingerbread man! Enjoy a cookie and visit the indoor gingerbread house display.

Prairie Holiday (Grades 2 -6)
Date: December 3, 2009
Time: 1:00 pm
Cost: $5/ person
Length: 1¾ hours
Explore the history of holiday traditions as you travel back in time to December, 1836 with a visit to Prairietown. One of the town residents has lost a cherished holiday heirloom. As you help in the search, meet a variety of characters, find out about their daily lives and holiday traditions, and take part in hands-on activities. The program includes a visit to the Golden Eagle Inn, Schoolhouse, Whitaker Store and Curtis House, as well as the indoor gingerbread exhibit.

April 2010

Moving West (Grades 4 -8)
Date: April 8, 2010
Time: 1:30 pm
Length: 2 hours
Cost: $5/ person
Become a pioneer who has just sold their farm in Ohio and is heading west to settle in Indiana. Select goods to take along, buy land at an auction and use 19th-century tools. Work together to make decisions and deal with the consequences.
