Conner Prairie Farm

Conner Prairie Farm

There is a long history of agriculture on the site of Conner Prairie. Native peoples may have sowed its fields for centuries. William Conner's keen eye for land led him to settle here and begin to work its soil. Contemporaries commented on Conner's waving acres of rye and corn. After Conner's departure subsequent owners and tenants continued to plant and harvest the rich fields. When Eli Lilly acquired the property in 1934, he immediately began to turn it into a model working farm, calling it Conner Prairie Farm. This online exhibit looks at agriculture on this land and, in particular, at Conner Prairie Farm.
