6/20/2007

A Reading of the Declaration of Independence, Watermelon Seed Spitting Contests, Homemade Ice Cream Making, 1886 Base Ball Games and a Militia March …it must be Glorious Fourth at Conner Prairie!!

It's Conner Prairie's celebration of our nation's birth – 19th century style. Join residents of 1836 Prairietown and help us as we celebrate our nation's independence with base ball games, ice cream making, barn dancing, patriotic crafts, sack races, watermelon seed spitting contests, live period music, and more!

Experience historical pastimes with a patriotic twist…

Can you beat your family in a sack race or a game of croquet? Have you ever made your own ice-cream? How far can you spit a watermelon seed? Experience a 19th-century-style base ball game! Bunt the store in Fourth of July décor, participate in a patriotic reading of the Declaration of Independence or join in the militia muster and ceremony in Prairietown. Tap your toes and swing your partner as you promenade to the sounds of Hog Eye Navvy! The historic areas are bustling with fun and games and no matter your age, you won’t be able to resist joining in!

Do all of this and more at Glorious Fourth, a Conner Prairie festival that brings an old-fashioned Fourth back to life all weekend long. There are historic games, patriotic decorations and speeches, and so much more! A grand ole time will be had by all! And make sure to visit on an empty stomach!
